GODSMACK

Godsmack is an American heavy metal band from Boston, Massachusetts formed in 1996. The band comprises founder, frontman and songwriter Sully Erna, guitarist Tony Romala, bassist Robbie Merrill and drummer Shannon Larkin. Since its formation, Godsmack has released four studio albums, one EP, three DVDs, and one greatest hits collection.

Godsmack has sold nearly 10 million albums in the United States. The band has had two number one albums (''Faceless'' and ''IV" (Godsmack album) on the Billboard 200. They have had fourteen top ten modern rock singles, making the only band to ever do so, as well as four modern rock number one singles, a debut album selling over five million copies in two years and have also been nominated for three Grammy Awards.

In February 1995, Sully Erna decided to start a new band as the lead singer after playing the drums for more than 23 years, including over two years in the now defunct band Strip Mind. Later that year, Erna called his friend Robbie Merrill, asking if he wanted to start writing music, and Merrill agreed. His new band The Scam formed with Erna on vocals, Merrill on bass, local guitarist and friend Lee Richards on guitar, and Tommy Stewart on drums. The Scam quickly changed its name to Godsmack, after recording one demo. The newly formed band started playing small bars in their hometowns of Lawrence, Massachusetts, and Salem, New Hampshire. Godsmack started out as an Alice in Chains cover band, but moved on quickly to write its own music. Locally popular songs such as "Keep Away " and "Whatever" brought them quickly to the top of the hit charts in the Boston/New England area.

The band's name, according to Merrill in the ''Smack This!'' DVD, was stolen from the Alice in Chains' song "God Smack". However, Erna stated in a 1999 interview that "I was making fun of somebody who had a cold sore on his lip and the next day I had one myself and somebody said, 'It's a godsmack.' The name stuck. We were aware of the Alice in Chains song but didn't really think much about it. It's a cool song and the name had meaning for us".

In 1996, Tony Rombola and Joe D'arco joined Godsmack as the guitarist and drummer, after Richards left after finding out he had a six year old child and Stewart left due to personal differences. In the same year the band entered the studio for the first time, recording its first CD titled ''All Wound Up (album)'', with Erna playing drums and the rest of the band playing their respective instruments.

For the next two years, the band played throughout the Boston area. Eventually Godsmack's CD landed in the hands of "Rocko", a DJ for Boston radio station WAAF (FM). The radio station put "Keep Away (song)" into heavy rotation and the song rose to the number one spot at the station very quickly. Newbury Comics, a New England record store chain, agreed to sell the CD on consignment. Shortly after the success of "Keep Away", Godsmack went back into the studio and recorded a single titled "Whatever (Godsmack song)", which became the new local favorite on WAAF (FM).

In an interview Erna stated, "we had been selling maybe 50 copies a month at the time WAAF picked up the album. All of a sudden we started moving over a thousand records a week. It was insane. Even crazier, I was doing all this from my bedroom. After years of grinding away, things finally started taking off".

NOW, DIABOLICAL (SATYRICON)

Now, Diabolical is an album by the Norwegian black metal band Satyricon (band). On the vinyl version, as well as on the Scarecrow Records limited edition CD of the album there is a bonus track "Storm (Of The Destroyer)". It features the singles "K.I.N.G." and "The Pentagram Burns".

SATYRICON

Satyricon is a Norwegian black metal band, formerly known as Eczema. The band credits their first album, ''Dark Medieval Times'', with starting a black metal subgenre dubbed "medieval metal". The album showed off the fascination Satyricon had with the Middle Ages, along with raw black metal blastbeats produced by Kjetil Haraldstad, mixed with acoustic guitar and flute. On the next album, ''The Shadowthrone'', this medieval spirit was continued.

Regarding one of their latest albums, ''Volcano (Satyricon album)'', frontman Sigurd Wongraven stated in a press release/biography on their homepage that "the music is rock based but more extreme; it is black metal pushing the boundaries that began with bands like Venom (band) and Bathory (band), reinventing ourselves based on a foundation of rock oriented black metal is our philosophy." It resulted in a total of 4 Awards for ''Volcano'' being, the Norwegian Grammy for "Best Metal Album", an Alarm award for "Fuel For Hatred" in the category for "Song of the Year", as well as The Alarm Award for "Metal Album of the Year" and The Oslo awards for "Best Overall Album".

Satyricon participated in the Darkthrone tribute "Darkthrone Holy Darkthrone", released by Moonfog Productions in 1998, covering the song "Kathaarian Life Code". Also in 1998, Satyricon participated in the Bathory tribute "In Conspiracy With Satan", released by Hellspawn/No Fashion Records, covering the song "Born For Burning".

In 2006, the band released a new studio album, ''Now, Diabolical''. The album has generated a great degree of controversy in the black metal underground, due to its straightforward, "radio-friendly" take on the genre. The album is selling extraordinarily well, however, even outside of black metal circles.

GAAHL (GORGOROTH)

Kristian Eivind "Gaahl" Espedal (born August 7, 1975 in Espedal, Fjaler, Norway) is a black metal vocalist, and is the frontman of Norwegian band Gorgoroth.

Gaahl was born in the village of Espedal, Fjaler, Norway in 1975. It was revealed in Peter Beste's documentary ''True Norwegian Black Metal'' that his family has lived in and owned the same tiny village in western Norway for centuries. At present, only he and his family live in the village despite all being at least 15 minutes from each other. He has a reputation as an enigmatic character, for example, he was schooled in the same place from the age of 4 to 18 and was one of two students in the school building, the other comitting suicide after leaving. Gaahl has been involved with black metal since 1992, and has been in bands such as Gaahlskagg (with Gorgoroth live guitarist Skagg), Trelldom, and Sigfader (with Skagg and Kvitrafn). Gaahl joined Gorgoroth in 1998, and was first heard on their Nuclear Blast album ''Destroyer''; however, he only sang on the title track.

Gaahl was sentenced to one year in prison for assault in 2001, and was forced to pay the victim 158,000 NOK (26,963 US$).

In 2006, Gaahl spent another 9 months (of a 14 month sentence) in prison for brutally assaulting a man and allegedly threatening to drink his blood in 2002. The victim received a total of 190,000 NOK (32,424 US$). Gaahl was released in December 2006.

He was briefly interviewed for the 2005 documentary ''Metal: A Headbanger's Journey''. He gives commentary on the events in Norway in the early 90s as well as some of his views on Satanism and Christianity.

In April 2007 Gaahl appeared in a 5 part series entitled ''True Norwegian Black Metal''. The series was produced by famous black metal photographer Peter Beste. The series debuted on vbs.tv the broadcast network of Vice Magazine. Gaahl once more gives his views on Christianity, his paintings, and shows the film crew around his house and woods.

In October 2007, Gaahl and Infernus, the only original member of Gorgoroth, had an undisclosed argument over the future of the band. Using a MySpace bulletin, they announced their dissolution. On October 22, Gaahl and King ov Hell claimed on their official website that Infernus had departed from the band, with Gaahl and King to continue touring and releasing material under the name 'Gorgoroth', but as a founding member and the chief ideologist of Gorgoroth prior to this dissolution, Infernus announced he would be filing suit against his former contemporaries for use of the name. Shortly afterwards, Infernus launched a new official website for his party.

On December 13, 2007, Regain Records issued an official statement declaring Infernus as the legitimate owner of the name, and threatened suit against third parties using the name.

On December 19, 2007 however, it was announced that authorities in the Norwegian Patent Office determined legally that Gaahl and King ov Hell "retain the rightful ownership and use of the name and logo, now and in the future."

Gaahl is popularly known as a Satanist, although he in fact regards Satan as culturally and spiritually irrelevant, and only uses Satanism to promote his staunch anti-Christianity on the basis that 'we live in a Christian world and we have to speak their language', also using it for its confrontational value to counter Christian imposition. In actuality, he is a practitioner of old Norse Shamanism, and is opposed to imposition of one's own religious beliefs on others. Ostensibly, Gaahl's spiritual beliefs further cemented Gorgoroth's lyrical suppression. Gaahl is also a vegetarian.

ROTTING CHRIST

Rotting Christ is an Athens, Greece-based black metal band formed in 1987. They are notable as being one of the first bands of the genre within this region, as well as a premier act within the European underground metal scene.

The permanent line-up consists of brothers Sakis Tolis (born June 29, 1972, Athens, vocals and guitar) and Themis Tolis (born March 28, 1974, Athens, drums). Andreas Lagios (born November 11, 1972, Athens) has been the bassist since 1997, taking the stead of Jim Patsouris. Nightfall's (band) George Bokos joined as a guitarist in 2005, replacing Kostas Vassilakopoulos.

Three keyboardists had previously been a part of the band; George Tolias, George Zaharopoulos and a session known only as Panayiotis (on ''A Dead Poem'').

In their two decades of existence, the band started as raw black metal, but utilized what has been described as a "dark metal" direction on later releases, almost doing away with the black metal title, but not compromising their extreme metal sound.

During their rehearsal era in the late 1980s, the band began as grindcore and released various splits and demos with other bands from the Athens area. The group would later alter their sound with influence from proto-black metal bands like Celtic Frost and Venom (band), and in the process become one of the genre's instigators. Their 5 song demo, ''Satanas Tedeum'', would show a grindcore/black metal crossover, followed by their career-breaking EP, ''Passage to Arcturo'', in 1991.

One of band's first major appearances was on the 1993 "''Fuck Christ Tour''" consisting of Immortal (band) and Blasphemy (band). During this concert, some audience members had engaged in cutting and self mutilation that resulted in hospitalization. Before signing to Unisound, Mayhem (band) Øystein Aarseth had expressed interest in distributing the band through his "Deathlike Silence" label, but due to Aarseth's murder the same year, nothing materialized. The band would sign to Century Media in 1996 and remain on their roster for 10 years before joining Season of Mist.

Rotting Christ have played in many continents outside their native Greece, including both Americas, Greater Europe, Russia, the United Kingdom and the Middle East. Several heavy metal festivals around the world have hosted the band, including the 2003 ''Wacken Open Air'' in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Past tourmates have included My Dying Bride, Tristania, Tiamat, Vintersorg, Finntroll, Old Man's Child, Malevolent Creation, Anorexia Nervosa, Vader, Krisiun, Deicide, Behemoth and Nile.

PROGRESSIVE METAL

Progressive metal is a sub-genre of heavy metal music which blends the powerful, guitar-driven sound of metal with the complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, and intricate instrumental playing of progressive rock. Some progressive metal bands are also influenced by jazz fusion and classical music. Like progressive rock songs, progressive metal songs are usually much longer than standard metal songs, and they are often thematically linked in concept albums. As a result, progressive metal is rarely heard on mainstream radio and video programs.

The origins of progressive metal can be traced back to progressive rock bands from the late 1960s and early to mid-1970s such as Yes (band), Pink Floyd, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Jethro Tull (band), King Crimson, Genesis (band), early Queen, Uriah Heep and Rush. The latter 3 also often blended metal elements into their music. However, progressive metal did not develop into a genre of its own until the mid-1980s. Bands such as Rainbow (band) had many qualities of progressive metal. Bands such as Fates Warning, Queensrÿche and Dream Theater took elements of these progressive rock groups – primarily the instrumentation and compositional structure of songs – and merged them with heavy metal music styles associated with pre-1991 Metallica and Megadeth. The result could be described as a progressive rock mentality with heavy metal sounds.

Progressive metal received mainstream exposure in the early 1990s when Queensrÿche's "Silent Lucidity" (from 1990's ''Empire (Queensrÿche album)'') became a radio and MTV hit. It was not a typical progressive metal song, but its popularity increased the profile of other progressive metal bands. In 1993, Dream Theater's "Pull Me Under" (from 1992's ''Images and Words'') became popular on radio and MTV. 1990s bands such as Pain of Salvation, Opeth, Ayreon, and Symphony X developed their own signature sounds.

Pain of Salvation drew heavily on more obscure 1970s prog acts. Ayreon stayed with the traditional Prog Metal themes, but mixed them with Rock Opera influences. Symphony X married progressive elements to neoclassical metal, bridging the gap between the two sub-genres. Steve Vai's former singer and heavy metal band Strapping Young Lad's singer and guitarist Devin Townsend combined ambient music elements to 1980's progressive metal on his first two solo albums ''Ocean Machine: Biomech'' and ''Infinity (Devin Townsend album)''. Opeth combined their prog influence with death metal. Another influence on prog metal was "technical metal" bands, such as Death (band), Watchtower (band), Atheist and Cynic , which played complex song structures and used virtuoso instrumental playing.

Bands like Sun Caged and Circus Maximus (Norwegian band) are influenced by traditional progressive metal and several of the first wave of 1990s bands. Bands such as Dark Suns (Band), Disillusion (band), or Conscience (band) are influenced by emotional progressive metal bands like Opeth, Pain of Salvation, Green Carnation and Anathema. Sweden's Tiamat (band) have also been influential in the progressive metal genre, especially on their 1994's breakthrough-album Wildhoney.

Progressive metal can be broken down into countless sub-genres corresponding to certain other styles of music that have influenced progressive metal groups. For example, two bands that are commonly identified as progressive metal, King's X and Opeth, are at opposite ends of the sonic spectrum to one another. King's X are greatly influenced by softer mainstream rock and, in fact, contributed to the growth of grunge music influencing bands like Pearl Jam, whose bassist Jeff Ament once said, "King's X ''invented'' grunge". Opeth's growling vocals and heavy guitars (liberally intermixed with Gothic metal-evocative acoustic passages) often see them cited as death metal, yet Mikael Åkerfeldt refers to Yes (band) and Camel (band) as major influences in the style of their music.

European classical music and symphonic music have also had a significant impact on sections of the progressive metal genre, with bands Devin Townsend, Symphony X and Shadow Gallery fusing traditional progressive metal with a complexity and grandeur usually found in classical compositions. Similarly, bands such as Dream Theater & Liquid Tension Experiment have a jazz influence, with extended solo sections that often feature "trading solos". Cynic (band), Atheist (band) and Pestilence (band) also blended jazz/fusion with death metal. Devin Townsend draws on more Ambient music influences in the atmosphere of his music. Progressive metal is also often linked with power metal, hence the ProgPower music festival. Prog metal has also overlapped thrash metal. Most famously perhaps with Dark Angel]]'s swansong album ''Time Does Not Heal'', which was famous for its sticker that said "9 Songs, 67 Minutes, 246 Riffs". Other bands with recognizable progressive metal elements included Coroner (band), Mekong Delta (band), Voivod (band), Forbidden (band), Metallist (band), Heathen (band), Sadus, Tool (band), and Blind Illusion.

KALMAH

Kalmah is a melodic death metal band from Oulu, Finland that formed in 1998. In less than a year after its formation, Kalmah was signed by Spinefarm Records, a Finnish record label. "Kalmah" is Karelian language and could be translated as "to the grave" or "to the death". The band is often termed "Swamp Metal" after their album cover themes.

History

Kalmah began in 1991 when Pekka Kokko and Petri Sankala founded the band Ancestor which originally played thrash metal, speed metal and death metal. After Ancestor had recorded two demos, Antti Kokko joined the band as lead guitarist. In 1998, after having recorded five demos and going through five different bassists whose names are unknown, Ancestor disbanded, and was refounded as Kalmah. The new band consisted of Pekka Kokko (vocals, guitar), Antti Kokko (lead guitar), Pasi Hiltula (keyboards), Altti Veteläinen (Bass guitar), and Petri Sankala (drums) and converted to melodic death metal, but still incorporating their original styles.

The newly formed Kalmah then began to write new songs for a promotional CD entitled ''Svieri Obraza''. With this demo, they acquired a recording contract with Spinefarm Records. The band then headed to Tico-Tico Studios to record their debut album.

Their debut album, ''Swamplord'', was released in 2000. The band had dozens of interviews and played a few shows in Finland before heading back to their rehearsal place to write the follow-up to ''Swamplord''.

By November 2001, the band had returned to Tico-Tico Studios to record their second studio album, ''They Will Return''. However, the line-up had changed due to the departure of Altti Veteläinen and Petri Sankala. They were replaced by Timo Lehtinen on bass and Janne Kusmin on drums.

In 2002, Kalmah played a couple of shows in Finland and played at Wacken Open Air. Late in 2002, the band began to write new songs for their third studio album. In February 2003, Kalmah once again returned to Tico-Tico Studios with ten new songs for their third studio album entitled ''Swampsong''. In 2004, keyboardist Pasi Hiltula decided to leave the band. Marco Sneck later joined the band as the new keyboardist.

In November 2005, the band once again returned to Tico-Tico Studios to record their fourth studio album, ''The Black Waltz''. The new album which consisted of eleven new songs was recorded and mixed at Tico-Tico Studios, and mastered by Mika Jusilla at Finnvox.

In May 2007, their fifth studio album was announced on their official site and is said to be released in Winter/Spring 2008. CLICK HERE

Kalmah have stated that they have seven songs ready and will enter the studios with Anssi Kippo in October to record the next album. The new album is said to be heavier and even more riff-oriented than those before it, but the melodies and basic Kalmah sound will still be present.

Musical style

Kalmah's musical style is largely influenced by melodic death metal, thrash metal, and speed metal. Kalmah is often compared to other metal bands from Finland such as Children of Bodom and Norther, possessing a heavy yet powerfully melodic sound. Like Children of Bodom and Norther, Kalmah exhibits some power metal elements in their music along with prominent keyboard melodies. This style can be called extreme power metal.

Kalmah's first three albums relied more on higher pitched, screamed vocals but on their latest album, they have opted for lower death growl style vocals, while retaining elements from their previous albums.

AD MAJOREM SATHANAS GLORIAM (GORGOROTH)

Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam is the latest album by Norwegian black metal band Gorgoroth. It was released in 2006 on Regain Records, and was nominated for Norway's 2006 Spellemann award in the 'Metal' category.

The title is Latin for "For The Greater Glory Of Satan". It is a parody of ''Ad maiorem Dei gloriam'' ("for the greater glory of Abrahamic conceptions of God"), the motto of the Society of Jesus, conceived by Roger Tiegs/Infernus after having read an article on the counter-reformation and the Jesuits. This is so far the only Gorgoroth album not to have any titles and lyrics in Norwegian.

The artwork used is from the painting '':media:William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) - Dante And Virgil In Hell (1850).jpg|Dante and Virgil in Hell'' by William-Adolphe Bouguereau.

SONS OF NORTHERN DARKNESS (IMMORTAL)

Sons of Northern Darkness is the seventh album by the Norwegian black metal band, Immortal. Musically it is very similar to the two prior releases, ''At the Heart of Winter'' and ''Damned in Black''. This is the easiest album to obtain in other countries and is considered Immortal's finest album in years. They have an upcoming 8th album in 2008.

DET SOM ENGANG VAR (BURZUM ALBUM)

Det som engang var is the title of the third release from Burzum. It was recorded in April 1992 and originally released on Varg's own label Cymophane at 950 copies (later re-issued on Misanthropy). The Norwegian title translates to "That Which Once Was" in English. (Note that the ''song'' "Det som en gang var," with a slightly different spelling, would not appear until the next album, ''Hvis lyset tar oss'').

The album's cover is inspired by an Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (1st edition) module called "The Temple of Elemental Evil"

KILLWHITENEYDEAD

Killwhitneydead. is an American deathcore band that makes extensive use of samples in their music. A common misconception of this band is that they are from Arizona. In truth, they hail from Greensboro, North Carolina.

They began as a studio project, releasing their EP Inhaling the Breath of a Bullet on Matt Rudzinski's record label Tribunal Records 8/20/2002. Two years later they changed their lineup and released their first full length album in 2004 Never Good Enough for You. Never Good Enough For You contains crowd favorites "She Didn't Look Like She Had a Disease," "Nothing Says Party Like Her Head on a Stick," and "The Fine and Subtle Art of Deception."

They are characterized by their mixture of blast beats, traditional metal riffs, hardcore "chugging" style guitars, and death metal singing. All of their songs include at least one audio sample (usually from a popular movie or television show), integrated as part of the lyrics.

After their third album, So Pretty So Plastic, they ceased to be just a studio band and began performing live. Members of The Demonstration, another Tribunal Records band, form the live band of Kill Whitney Dead. In 2007 they became Killwhitneydead. by helping to write and perform on the band's latest releases Nothing Less Nothing More and Hell to Pay. Both albums mark a move in a new direction both lyrically and musically. The new albums are more personal and the style is even more metal than before.

Killwhitneydead.'s lyrics may often sound misogynistic, but this is a common mistake that people make.

Matt stated on the Scene of the Crime DVD that he has no hatred for women. His lyrics draw from personal experiences and he creates songs to get out his frustration and anger. He says that the writing process is very cathartic for him.

They have been rated as one of the top MySpace bands in Greensboro.

BLOOD THIRST (CANNIBAL CORPSE ALBUM)

Bloodthirst is the seventh album by Cannibal Corpse. It was released in 1999 through Metal Blade Records. The album cover shows a visual represantation of the song "''Unleashing The Bloodthirsty''". It shows a monster described in the aforementioned song mutilating and devouring a man. The censored album cover is a painting of The Spine Splitter standing on a pile of bones. Standout tracks on this album include, "Pounded Into Dust", "Dead Human Collection" and "The Spine Splitter".

MELODIC BLACK METAL

Melodic black metal is a style of black metal. It is classified according to several key aspects; typical black metal characteristics, such as growled or shrieked vocals, blast beats, and heavily distorted electric guitar|guitars. The music, however, differs from traditional black metal in several ways. Heavy guitar riffs are used throughout the songs even though clean guitar sections are generally incorporated, and the appearance of guitar solos is not uncommon. Commonly, structure of songs are a little more conventional, and also incorporate strings and synths during various portions.

The genre reputably draws its roots from black metal and melodic death metal. Melodic black metal is sometimes confused with gothic metal, doom metal, and symphonic black metal due to similarities in the styles (slow tempos, occasional death screams, clean guitars, defined structures), which results in the erroneous genre classification and overlapping for many bands and albums (in particular, with symphonic black metal).

A song typically consists of harmonic minor scales, often modulating violently between minor chords by thirds (e.g., F#m-Am-Cm, etc.) Many of the songs incorporate heavy guitar power chords, but unlike traditional black metal, the songs have at least some control on the volume, allowing the music to blend instead of sounding too "noisy". The songs usually begin with a melodic introduction, be it clean guitar or keyboards and usually move on to a more aggressive and distorted sound as the piece advances. Unlike typical black metal songs, melodic black metal compositions have, on the most part, very clearly defined bridge (music). Songs generally go from introduction to verse to a prechorus to chorus to verse to prechorus to chorus and then to a bridge. In a bridge the music can turn quite mellow, unlike black metal. The bridge, however, turns back into the verse or the black metal sound with a very swift and unexpected turn (usually a loud death grunt).

Unlike traditional black metal, melodic black metal usually revolves around deep structure and accessibility. The lyrical themes and main attributes, however, still come from black metal, with melodic black metal's lyrical subjects usually remaining the same (although many melodic black metal bands are not as aggressively anti-Christian]. Like most black metal bands, the lyrics are usually quite aggressive, whether added intentionally or bearing the aggression of the lyricist. Heavy drumming and highly structured guitar riffs (usually played with what some call reverse, or inverted, power chords and tremolo picking) are the most prominent feature of the genre, entailing melodic structure deep within the composition and sound.

Melodic black metal has remained, on the most part, uniquely an underground phenomena. The genre's most popular bands are relatively obscure, one notable exceptions being Dimmu Borgir.

The physical appearance of melodic black metal musicians has remained very close to that of traditional black metal bands. Band members use corpse paint for live performances, spikes, and black clothing. They generally use pseudonyms or stage names and choose to remain unknown in mainstream circles.

ABIGOR

Abigor is an Austrian black metal band formed in 1993 by Peter Kubik (P.K.) and Thomas Tannenberger (T.T.). After the release of several demos, original vocalist Tharen left the band and was replaced by Silenius, who recorded vocals for all Abigor releases until the recording of ''Channeling the Quintessence of Satan'' during which he opted to leave the band. Thurisaz, who had been in the thrash metal band Lost Victim together with Tannenberger in the 1980s, joined the band and finished recordings on ''Channeling the Quintessence of Satan''. In late 1999, Tannenberger left the band for various reasons (ranging from personal problems to being fed up with what once was the "scene"). After his departure, Abigor released two more albums before breaking up in 2003.

In April 2006, Kubik and Tannenberger decided to join forces again. The band released the new album ''Fractal Possession'' in 2007. The band is scheduled to release a split EP in 2008 with French black metal group Blacklodge. In connection with this release Abigor is cooperating with Norwegian experimental artist Zweizz.

Early works by Abigor were loosely inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien's ''The Lord of the Rings'. The album cover on ''Orkblut - The Retaliation'' is a collage of 2 paintings originally made by Lord of the Rings fantasy artist Ian Miller.

The album cover on ''Channeling the Quintessence of Satan '' was originally by the German printmaker/artist Albrecht Dürer. (''The Knight, Death and the Devil'', 1514)

Most Abigor releases were released by Napalm Records.

ANVIL DOOM

Anvil of Doom is a death metal band from Andalusia, Spain, active since mid-1999.

Born and based in Jerez de la Frontera, Anvil of Doom start their carreer in 2002, after several years of Underground culture activity and line-up changes in search of a solid basis. The band entered the studio and recorded their acclaimed Demo (music) "Died Before Dawn", which had a great success among their followers, and permitted Anvil of Doom to sign a deal with Xtreem Music.

Through 2003, Anvil of Doom work in new material for their first album, while improving their live experience, playing through all Andalusia with local bands, and also sharing stage with Spanish legends Barón Rojo, Soziedad Alkoholika or Avulsed (band). They also take part in the Xtreem Music Festival in Madrid, next to bands like Exodus (band), Nuclear Assault and Grave (band).

In January 2004, the studio sessions for their first album begin. "Deathillusion" would include three re-recordings from the demo and six new songs which reflect a clear evolution to a more technical Death Metal, without leaving the band’s distinctive melodic touch. The album was released in October and received very good reviews in specialized media around the world.
After recording and mixing, the band gets back on the road, not only in Andalusia, but also beyond.

Anvil of Doom keeps on the road, having played next to many international bands including Testament, Megadeth, Helloween, Scarve, Arkhon Infaustus, Callenish Circle, Dismember, Sodom, Saxon, Annihilator, Blind Guardian or Kreator and have also headlined several festivals around their country.

TECHNICAL DEATH METAL

Technical death metal refers to bands that are particularly distinguished by the complexity of their music and the virtuosity of their musicians. These are elements common to progressive rock and progressive metal (in fact, the term "progressive death metal" is a common synonym), with song structure abruptly changing, utilizing complex signatures and at times reverting to previous melodies introduced in earlier portions of the song. Chaotic, sometimes atonal riffs and atypical rhythms with varied or layered time signatures are often utilized. "Tech death", for short, is also a term commonly applied to such bands as Pestilence (band), Cryptopsy, Decapitated,[Necrophagist, Origin (band), and Spawn of Possession. Occassionally, jazz may be of some influence. Gorguts are an example of a band noted for creating jazz-influenced death metal on their album ''Obscura'', along with ''Spheres (album)'' by Pestilence (band). Additionally, Cynic (band), Edge of Sanity, Opeth, Sadist (band), and Atheist (band) are often labeled as technical or progressive death metal.
