AD MAJOREM SATHANAS GLORIAM (GORGOROTH)

Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam is the latest album by Norwegian black metal band Gorgoroth. It was released in 2006 on Regain Records, and was nominated for Norway's 2006 Spellemann award in the 'Metal' category.

The title is Latin for "For The Greater Glory Of Satan". It is a parody of ''Ad maiorem Dei gloriam'' ("for the greater glory of Abrahamic conceptions of God"), the motto of the Society of Jesus, conceived by Roger Tiegs/Infernus after having read an article on the counter-reformation and the Jesuits. This is so far the only Gorgoroth album not to have any titles and lyrics in Norwegian.

The artwork used is from the painting '':media:William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) - Dante And Virgil In Hell (1850).jpg|Dante and Virgil in Hell'' by William-Adolphe Bouguereau.
